Sexta-feira, Maio 30, 2003ESTÁ "online" o artigo que Alexander Halavais, da State University of New York em Buffalo, apresentou esta semana na conferência da International Communication Association -- Networks and Flows of Content on the World Wide Web: "The pages that follow discuss a set of options in methodology available to the scholar of communication on the World Wide Web, and specifically the content (both textual and structural) of websites. The intent is to provide a glimpse of not just the conceptual issues that a researcher of the Web is likely to face, but some of the 'nuts and bolts' of Web research. Despite the focus on the Web, and in some cases the subset of the Web that consists of weblogs, many of the choices presented here apply more broadly to investigations of networked media."António Granado, 11:20 / Link permanente /
FOI RECUSADO o pedido da Comissão da Carteira Profissional de Jornalista para que a Procuradoria-Geral da República passasse a fiscalizar as carteiras dos jornalistas portugueses. O simples facto de o pedido ter sido emitido leva-me a pensar que as situações de jornalistas com carteiras deasctualizadas não serão poucas. E se este meu raciocínio é verdadeiro, então é preciso fazer a pergunta seguinte: que relação há entre o número de carteiras desactualizadas e as multas absurdas aplicadas pela CCPJ aos jornalistas que se atrasam na renovação do seu título profissional? [A minha carteira está válida e nunca me atrasei na sua renovação, se é isso que estão a pensar...]
HÁ MULHERES a menos nas páginas de opinião dos jornais: "A group of my students at USC Law School have formed a new research organization called the Voices Project to study whether women's voices are fairly represented in the media. They have examined the opinion pages of newspapers regarded as both "liberal" and "conservative," and the pattern is strikingly similar. In paper after paper, nine out of 10 of the opinion articles are written by men. It doesn't matter whether it's the Los Angeles Times or the Orange County Register; it doesn't even seem to matter whether the opinion page editor is a woman or a man."
AQUI ESTÁ um interessante acordo entre uma ferramenta de weblogs e um jornal: os utilizadores do Radio Userland que fizerem "links" para o jornal "The New York Times" têm a garantia que essas ligações ficam activas por mais do que sete dias, o prazo normal para as notícias do "Times" entrarem no arquivo.
UM JORNALISTA britânico que concorreu a um emprego num aeroporto para testar a segurança pós-11 de Setembro e foi apanhado a mentir na sua candidatura viu a acusação ser-lhe retirada ontem, num tribunal de Londres: "Veysey, 26, and his father, who provided him with a reference for a job at Heathrow airport, were due to stand trial at Harrow crown court on charges of dishonesty over his job application in April 2002. Had the trial had gone ahead it would have been a landmark case with major implications for undercover newspaper investigations but the CPS has now agreed to drop the charges."

We should think of it as a kind of micro-paradigm shift - a kind of hyperactive academia, where discussion moves forward in discontinuous chunks - with an inital weighty post articulating a position that is then commented upon, challenged and cited all over the place. A CONFIANÇA nos media nos Estados Unidos está mesmo por baixo: "Public confidence in the media, already low, continues to slip. Only 36%, among the lowest in years, believe news organizations get the facts straight, a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll shows. Trust in the media has dropped from 54% in mid-1989 -- about the time of the fall of communism -- to a low of 32% in December 2000, during the post-election confusion over George W. Bush and Al Gore."

AS ESCOLAS de jornalismo dos Estados Unidos parecem estar a mexer, como resultado da célebre avaliação dos objectivos de Columbia. Na minha antiga faculdade, as coisas estão mesmo a pegar fogo: "In a spiraling crisis within Boston University's popular College of Communication, the dean and a department head have been pushed out, and the college's associate dean has resigned, according to numerous sources in the college."
